Hospital general practice center Maastricht UMC+ - The great equaliser...

It has been three weeks that I have been walking around with an infection on my left index finger. It's all swollen and it hurts like hell. I will spare you the details. I decided to go to the general practice center at the hospital here in Maastricht. I didn't want to go to my doctor during the week, since I have a busy schedule at work and I don't want to take off from work.I walked to the Hospital, about a 5 minutes walk. When I got to the general practice center, there was a lot of people waiting. I talked to the receptionist and I was instructed to sit and wait my turn.I grabbed a book and starting reading an article about Austria. About half an hour of waiting, I suddenly see 2 ladies walking into the center. (an older lady between 75 and 80 and what I assume is her daughter) The daughter was holding a napkin to her mother's bloodied head. The coordination of the older lady was not well. I looked at here and she reminded me of my grandma.Long time ago, when I was still a student, I woke of because something told me to wake up and walk to the kitchen. (I did not have school that day) When I got to the kitchen I found my grandma on the floor in a puddle of blood. She fell and hit her head. I called for an ambulance. My grandma was a strong woman, and told me that she will not go to the hospital like this. She had to change her clothes and comb her hair.An hour in the wait they have not called me in yet, but lady with the injured head neither. I made a deal with myself; "When they call me in I will ask them to treat the old lady first". After a while the called my name. I told the doctor that I would like you to treat that lady first. The doctor asked me; " is your last name Martinez? So, get into my office". It was an awful doctor. He wanted to give me antibiotics for a finger infection, when I asked him to cut mu finger open and let the infection bleed out. I left the hospital without getting the help I wanted. I called my wife and told her what I experienced. The great equaliser - It doesn't matter who you are or what injury you have. You have to wait your turn. I wanted to help that lady by swapping places with her, but I was not able to. I hope she got the help she deserved. The great equaliser. Or is it really?
